The Catalogue for our upcoming sale is now online. Bids can be placed from 5pm, Thursday October 31. Because of the short notice, we are going to keep this sale open for 17 days as opposed to the usual 10. The sale will start finishing from 6pm on Sunday November 17. It covers over 350 years of art and historical material along with a selection of 19th and early 20th Century photographs. We have grouped all entries into one of seven categories as under: Watercolours Oil paintings Acrylic paintings Works on paper Photographs Print & Graphics (all types*) Other types of art * Prints include Screen prints, Engravings, Etchings, Woodcuts, Silkscreen, Canvas prints, Giclee prints, Lithoprints (19th & 20th Cent.) This sale includes a fine selection of 19th Century engravings, matted and ready for framing with modest estimates, lower than international prices. The sale is DIVIDED into two parts: Part 1: Lots 1-328 consist of all NEW entries which have not been seen at auction before and follow the grouping order above – Watercolours, Oil paintings, Acrylic paintings, etc. Highlights include fine works by Francis McCracken, Vera Cummings, Bill Sutton, Violet Whiteman, Nigel Brown and others. Part 2: This covers Lots 330 onwards and consist of stock that has previously been offered and failed to sell. Again, these items follow the same 7 groupings - Watercolours, Oil paintings, Acrylic paintings, etc. There remain a number of excellent buys in this category many of the estimates have been lowered. A recently added feature to our sales is that when you click on the auction link you will see a new heading called CATEGORIES, next to the VIEW AUCTION heading. Click on this, and all entries will automatically be grouped into their categories. You can also click on the various categories which are listed under the scroll bar. BIDDING: If you bid on an item and you see the response RESERVE NOT MET you can continue to increase your bid by simply clicking on the bid button until you reach the reserve which can be anything from 75% to just over 90% of the low estimate. Once you see the message RESERVE MET you can stop bidding knowing that you have now won the item unless you are outbid by someone else. When this happens you will be automatically sent an email. In the closing minutes of the auction you should monitor the sale online as an email notification is unlikely to reach you in time. LOW COST DELIVERY: Finally, a word on delivery for those who are new to our sales. If you are not able to collect your purchases we continue to offer an inhouse packing/courier service on most small to medium sized artworks. Large or valuable works will need professional packing. Call for details. We can also deliver medium sized works to a number of North Island towns at attractive rates without the need for special packing. Special End of Year Rates (Auckland): So long as you or a friend are able to collect from me in Central Auckland (outside ‘The Open Book’ in Ponsonby Road) at a a given time, I can bring your purchases with me to Auckland on my next trip (early December) and to Hutt Valley/Wellington at the end of November. Our normal low cost delivery charge for Ponsonby collection is $30 for the first work and $20 for each additional artwork.
