December 2022 Timed Sale

Thursday, 8 - Tuesday, 13 December 2022

Thanks for registering for our current online, 5 day art auction which runs from 5pm Thursday December 8 and closes in batches of 5 lots every 90 seconds from 5.30 pm Tuesday December 13. Again, this is a big sale with over 1,400 lots. HOWEVER, to save you going through the entire catalogue we have broken the catalogue into THREE sections. Section 1 – Lots 001 – 400 (New entries) Section 2 - Lots 401 – 500 (previously offered lots, with a starting price of not less than $200) Section 3 – Lots 501 – (all other previously offered lots with starting prices from $15-$150) Many of the lots that have been previously offered are now re-offered with lowered reserves following instructions from vendors. Therefore, should you wish to peruse the entire offering you may find some hidden gems at extremely attractive prices. MAJOR CHANGE TO BIDDING PLATFORM Overall, the software we use is excellent. One problem until now has been that bidders have not been able to bid against themselves in order reach reserve prices. Reserves are normally set at 90% of the low estimate (some exceptions) and bids are set to start at 50% of the low estimate. Where there are 2 or more bidders then invariably the reserve is quickly reached. However, if there was only one bidder then bidding would get stuck at the 50% mark which was very frustrating for many bidders who were only too happy to at least pay the reserve price. Now, with changes to the software, if you are the only bidder and you really want an item you will be advised when you place your opening bid that the reserve has not been reached. You can then bid again and keep bidding until you are informed that the reserve has been reached. You can then stop bidding, safe in the knowledge that you have won the artwork you were bidding on, unless of course someone else enters the bidding at that stage. Please note that any bids placed in the last minute or so of the auction closing will cause the auction to automatically-extend by another two minutes to enable any competing bidders to respond so, unlike eBay, there is no advantage gained in waiting till the closing seconds! SEARCH FACILITY Do make use of the excellent search facility that goes with the catalogue and which appears at the top of every page. You can search on an artist’s name, by town or country, medium, subject matter, etc. To find a work in any particular medium just enter the MEDIUM in the search bar (e.g. Watercolour; Oil; Photograph, etc) VIEWING: If you live in or around Whanganui (or are travelling through) then we can accommodate, by prior arrangement, an inspection of any artwork where the low estimate is not less than $150. Our office is not open to passing traffic and we only work by appointment. Please call Henry on 027 471 2242. We’d appreciate a day’s notice of any visit as works need to be retrieved PAYMENT FOR PURCHASES: Following the sale you will be invoiced for your purchases. Prompt settlement would be appreciated. Our 15% (+ gst) Buyer’s Premium will be added to the hammer price. COLLECTIONS & FREIGHT: If you are not able to collect your purchases we now offer an inhouse Packing service on most small to medium sized artworks. Very large or valuable works will need professional packing. Call for details. We can also deliver to a number of North Island towns at attractive rates without the need for packing. PRE-CHRISTMAS deliveries. Please note that I will be driving to Auckland on Thursday December 15 and returning to Whanganui the following day. It will be a tight trip but I may have time to deliver if you live centrally or can collect from me. My next trip to Auckland will likely be towards the end of January or early February but purchases can be couriered in the meantime. I can deliver to Wellington and towns enroute, Monday, December 19th. In the case of MATTED PRINTS without frames one of the attractions of these is that we can send 5 or 6 in a courier bag generally for no more than $20 – anywhere in NZ (a bit extra for rural delivery). These make great space fillers around the home or office. They can be framed at your local frame shop according to your taste or budget. Good frames at reasonable prices can be had from Briscoes or The Warehouse. During the closing minutes of an auction it is best to watch the screens for signs of last minute bidders. Happy bidding and thanks for your support during 2023. Best regards, Henry Newrick Director 027 471 2242
