March 2024 Timed Sale
Thursday, 28 March - Sunday, 7 April 2024

Our March sale begins at 5pm on Thursday March 28 and finishes 10 days later on Sunday April 7. The sale features a wide array of paintings, works on paper, prints, photographs and books spanning centuries of art and photography. The highlight of this sale is a magnificent museum quality painting by the noted artist, H. W. Kirkwood (1854-1925). The painting is of Port Fitzroy, Great Barrier Island and is signed and dated 1904. It is in superb condition in its original frame and measures 110cm deep x 150cm wide. The original purchase price was £26.5/- which, in today’s inflation adjusted currency, is the equivalent of $8,300. A picture appears on this page. Another important entry in the sale is a collection of the first 79 issues (1883-1909) of The Wanganui Collegian, the school magazine of Whanganui Collegiate. These are in 3 leather bound volumes and were the property of Walter Empson, the long standing headmaster who ran the school from 1888-1909. To arrange a viewing of these and other key entries call Henry Newrick on 027 471 2242. The sale is DIVIDED into two parts: Part 1: Lots 001-200 consist of all NEW entries which have not been seen at auction before and follow the grouping order above – Watercolours, Oil paintings, Acrylic paintings, etc. Part 2: Lots 210-onwards consist of older stock, seen by long standing clients but not by those who have recently joined our list. A recently added feature to our sales is that when you click on the auction link you will see a new heading called CATEGORIES, next to the VIEW AUCTION heading. Click on this, and all entries will automatically be grouped into their categories. You can also click on the various categories which are listed under the scroll bar. BIDDING: If you bid on an item and you get the response RESERVE NOT MET you can continue to increase your bid by simply clicking on the bid button until you reach the reserve. Once you see the message RESERVE MET you can stop bidding knowing that you will have won the item unless you are outbid by someone else. When this happens you will be automatically sent an email. In the closing minutes of the sale you should monitor the sale online as an email notification may not reach you in time. DELIVERY: Finally, a word on delivery for those who are new to our site. If you are not able to collect your purchases we continue to offer an inhouse packing/courier service on most small to medium sized artworks. Large or valuable works will need professional packing/delivery. Call for details. We can also deliver to a number of North Island towns at attractive rates without the need for special packing. Prices for this service are invariably cheaper than courier. I wish you successful bidding. Best regards, Henry Newrick Director
