Online only ‘Timed’ Sale
Thursday, 23 - Tuesday, 28 June 2022

Thanks for logging into our current online, 5 day art auction which runs from 5pm Thursday June 23rd and closes in batches of 6 lots every 90 seconds from 6pm next Tuesday 28th June. As previously noted, this is a big sale with over 1,100 lots. Should you wish to peruse the entire offering you may find some hidden gems at attractive prices. On the other hand, to reduce your potential search time we have grouped all art into one of seven categories and within that category you’ll find a range of different media. For example, in PRINTS & GRAPHICS you will find Etchings, Engravings, Woodcuts, Lithoprints, Mezzotints, Postcards, Screenprints, etc. WORKS ON PAPER cover art such as drawings, pen and ink pastels, charcoal, mixed media, gouache (when on paper), etc. WATERCOLOURS has its own section. Watercolours Lots 0001-0137 Paintings – Oil Lots 0138-0283 Paintings – Acrylic Lots 0284-0326 Works on Paper Lots 0327-0367 Prints & Graphics Lots 0368-0963 Photographs Lots 0964-1120 Other Lots 1121-1138 In addition to the above categories you can search the entire catalogue by an artist’s name and it will throw up works by that artist in no matter which category. You can also search on any keyword you wish such as a subject (birds) or City (Wellington). VIEWING: If you live in or around Whanganui (or are travelling through) then we can accommodate, by prior arrangement, an inspection of any artwork where the low estimate is not less than $300. Our office is not open to passing traffic and we only work by appointment. Please call Henry on 027 471 2242. Following the sale you will be invoiced for your purchases. Prompt settlement will be appreciated. Our 15% (+ gst) Buyer’s Premium will be added to the hammer price. BIOGRAPHICAL Information A feature of our auctions is that there is a line on each listing which says ‘Biographical’. Here we provide links to pages in publications where you can find out a little about the artist. Often there is no reference to the artist in our standard reference works as below, in which case a GOOGLE search will bring more information. All artists outside NZ and Australia are generally shown as ‘Google’. The reference works we mainly use are: Newrick’s New Zealand Art Auction Records (which I wrote almost 50 years ago in 1973) and which contains a lot of useful biographical information as well as prices that are now well dated. This is shown in the Catalogue as NZAAR at (page number). If you don’t already have it you can download a free PDF copy at https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/0do8vp. Nineteenth Century New Zealand Artists – by Una Platts. Shown as PLATTS at (page number) A Concise Dictionary of New Zealand Artists – by Kate McGahey. Shown as CONCISE at (page number) Concise Dictionary of Australian Artists – by Gwenda Robb & Elaine Smith. Shown as CDOAA at (page number) Artists & Galleries of Australia & New Zealand – by Max Germaine. Shown as GERMAINE at (page number) PRINTS & GRAPHICS In this section (our largest) we list a very wide range of prints including screenprints, engravings, etchings, woodcuts, lithoprints (Lithos) etc. Lithos come from various sources. They may be limited Editions put out by a publisher such as Avon or Turnbull. They may be posters or specially published prints suitable for framing. A lot of our smaller prints described as Litho, ‘Matted ready for framing’ and generally priced in the $20-$60 range come from medium and high priced books/art catalogues and look quite stunning when framed. If a photo is described as ‘Litho’ then it is a print and not an original photo, not matter how good it looks. Our lower priced lithoprints are ideal for filling gaps on walls. Because they are UNFRAMED we can generally fit 3 or 4 matted prints, well-protected, in a postage or courier satchel that can be sent anywhere in New Zealand for $10-$20. COLLECTIONS & FREIGHT: If you live outside Whanganui and are not able to collect, then delivery can be arranged by courier/post or in some cases Henry can deliver if you live in Auckland, Wellington or selected regional towns. We’ll quote you for this on request. For larger works, personal delivery is preferable for security and is invariably less costly than courier. Happy bidding. Best regards, Henry Newrick Director 027 471 2242
